TechFlow reports that on September 22, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin responded on a social media platform to David Hoffman, founder of Bankless, who claimed "the rollup-centric roadmap is complete." Vitalik stated that such a conclusion is premature. He pointed out that current blob data usage is only 1.3 times away from full capacity (21,600 blobs per day), emphasizing the need to activate peer-das and simultaneously advance L1 improvements and secure scalability.
Vitalik noted that work on data availability (DA), state expiry (SSF), and EVM execution improvements is being carried out independently by different teams, and there is no question of priority among them. Regarding proposals to shorten L1 slot time, he said they are worth discussing but require careful evaluation. He explained that, all else being equal, shortening slot time would indeed increase block space (blobspace) supply, but bandwidth and latency should be treated as separate issues.
Vitalik stressed that shortening L1 slot time must avoid negatively impacting independent validators and geographically dispersed stakers in order to preserve network decentralization. He also noted that bandwidth constraints determine the limits of gas/blob usage, and the current level of satisfaction with these limits will similarly apply to future direct constraints.
