TechFlow reported on September 18, according to Decrypt, that the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York has denied Keonne Rodriguez, founder of Samourai Wallet, a request to modify his bail conditions. Prosecutors submitted handwritten "flight preparation" notes by Rodriguez as evidence, detailing travel plans and emergency supplies including a passport, $10,000 in cash, burner phones and laptops, encrypted USB drives, and mnemonic phrases for "as much Bitcoin as possible." Rodriguez's attorneys argued these were merely general contingency plans, but prosecutors claimed they constituted an active escape plan.
Previous report: Rodriguez and co-founder William Lonergan Hill were arrested in April this year over allegations of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business, involving $2 billion in illicit transactions and $100 million in money laundering. The founders' attorneys have cited a letter from two senators in May, criticizing the Department of Justice for overly broad interpretations of non-custodial cryptocurrency software services.
