TechFlow reported on September 17 that, according to The Block, the Web3 communication protocol WalletConnect announced it will launch its native token, Connect Token (WCT), on the Optimism mainnet. The initial total supply of WCT is capped at 1 billion tokens, with 18.5% allocated for the first season airdrop. Airdrop registration will open on September 24 and close on October 11. Eligible users must connect their wallet, link their GitHub account, and provide an email address. Initially, WCT tokens will be non-transferable, with full functionality expected to be activated via community governance before 2025. Meanwhile, WalletConnect Inc. has rebranded to Reown, the WalletConnect Foundation has been established, and founder Pedro Gomes will serve as the foundation's director.
