TechFlow news — On September 13, according to Cointelegraph, Vera Bergengruen, a reporter for Time magazine, said in a recent interview that El Salvador President Nayib Bukele's push to adopt bitcoin as legal tender may have been more about improving the country's image than addressing substantive economic concerns. Bergengruen was among the first foreign journalists to interview Bukele in three years.
The report states that Bukele's advisors have described the adoption of bitcoin as "rebranding" and a "purely public relations move." Bergengruen emphasized that before entering politics, Bukele briefly led his family's public relations firm, and his political actions often prioritize "image over outcomes." She stated: "Bitcoin was never truly intended to change the economic conditions of El Salvador's people." In her view, all of Bukele's initiatives—from bitcoin to cracking down on gang crime—prioritize image and perception above all.
