TechFlow news — On September 10, according to Cointelegraph, while Apple held its new iPhone launch event yesterday, numerous scam livestreams featuring deepfake impersonations of Tim Cook appeared on YouTube. These highly-produced videos directed viewers to deposit cryptocurrency into specific wallet addresses, promising double returns. One verified YouTube channel posing as "Apple US" conducted such a livestream, amassing hundreds of thousands of views collectively.
The scammers primarily targeted major cryptocurrencies such as BTC, ETH, USDT, and DOGE. In the videos, the deepfaked Tim Cook claimed: "Once your deposit is completed, the system will automatically process and return double the amount." YouTube's official support team has confirmed the incident and urged users to report related videos using the platform’s official reporting tools. At the time of writing, the fraudulent livestreams have been taken down and associated accounts terminated.
