TechFlow reports, citing CoinDesk and two sources, that New York Attorney General Letitia James has joined the regulatory action against cryptocurrency platform Uniswap. Last month, James's office issued subpoenas to several venture capital firms that invested in Uniswap, including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and Union Square Ventures.
A Uniswap spokesperson said the organization welcomes dialogue with any government agency or elected official on responsible DeFi innovation. Meanwhile, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) ordered Uniswap Labs on Wednesday, September 4, to pay a $175,000 civil penalty and cease violations of the Commodity Exchange Act. Earlier, in April 2024, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued Uniswap a "Wells Notice," alleging it operated as an unregistered securities broker and exchange.
