TechFlow news: Safe Superintelligence (SSI), a safety-focused AI startup co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, has announced $1 billion in funding at a $5 billion valuation. Investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel, and NFDG.
SSI currently has 10 employees and plans to use the funds to secure computing power and recruit top talent. SSI co-founder and CEO Daniel Gross said the company will focus directly on developing safe superintelligence, with a planned two-year research and development phase before bringing products to market. Sutskever serves as chief scientist, Daniel Levy is chief scientist, and Gross oversees computing capacity and fundraising.
Sutskever emphasized that SSI will adopt a different approach from OpenAI in handling AI scaling. SSI plans to collaborate with cloud service providers and chip companies to meet its computing needs, though specific partners have not yet been decided.
