TechFlow news, according to the Financial Times, Telegram founder Pavel Durov said the company has only about 50 employees, including 30 rigorously vetted engineers. Team members are selected through programming competitions, with winners being recruited. The company's programmers mainly come from Ukraine.
A person familiar with the matter said that Telegram employees are typically "super-young Eastern Europeans" earning $500,000 a year.
Earlier this year, Pavel Durov told the Financial Times that employee turnover is almost zero because they share the same values and believe in the company's mission. Durov himself is the central decision-maker. Despite having nearly one billion users, the company maintains an innovation speed closer to that of a startup. He personally dislikes viewing himself as a co-director or boss, preferring instead to see himself as a product leader—no new feature is launched without his deep involvement.
