TechFlow news — Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin shared his views on social media this morning, questioning the practical feasibility of an "anonymous society" or a "financialized pseudonymous society." Vitalik pointed out that collusion problems are unsolvable and provided links to related arguments. He emphasized that a more multidimensional concept of identity—featuring "soulbound" characteristics—appears necessary; otherwise, the most stable governance structures would effectively be centralized, while other structures could suffer from financialized governance attacks.
Vitalik noted that these issues are already emerging in today's DAOs. He likened anonymity to a counterbalance used to operate the "dark side of the cycle," but stressed that it cannot sustain the entire cycle by itself—just as a society cannot function solely on perpetual rebellion. Regarding existential risks (X-risk), Vitalik stated that cognitive diversity might help more effectively identify risk-mitigation measures that people can support.
