TechFlow reported on August 17 that Optimism's governance information revealed OP Labs protocol engineer Mofi has published a proposal for a network upgrade named Granite Network Upgrade. The proposal aims to address security vulnerabilities identified by third-party audits conducted by Spearbit, Cantina, and Code4rena. Although these vulnerabilities have not been exploited and user assets remain unaffected, OP Labs has decided to take preventive action.
The proposal outlines that the upgrade will include a series of improvements to smart contracts to fix the identified vulnerabilities, along with an L2 hard fork to enhance the stability and performance of the fault-proof system. To mitigate potential instability during the patching process, the team has also activated a permissioned rollback mechanism.
If approved, the Granite Network Upgrade is scheduled to be implemented on September 10 at 16:00 UTC. The upgrade has been coordinated with Base and Conduit and has already been tested on internal development networks and the Sepolia Superchain.
