TechFlow news: Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino recently predicted that brain-computer interfaces (BCI) could become mainstream consumer products within the next 20 years. This forecast stems from breakthrough advancements by Blackrock Neurotech, a company in Tether's investment portfolio. On August 14, The New England Journal of Medicine reported that Blackrock Neurotech's innovative text-to-speech brain implant successfully enabled a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to speak again.
Ardoino believes this may only be the beginning. BCI technology holds promise for providing solutions to millions worldwide who are unable to walk, see, hear, or speak due to paralysis, functional loss, and neurological disorders. He compares BCI to direct, low-latency access to computing power and AI capabilities, bypassing the information loss that typically occurs when thoughts are converted into language. Ardoino envisions that BCI could give rise to a new class of humans—"Homo sapiens³"—whose brains could access advanced computing power, infinite knowledge, and artificial intelligence.
Ardoino emphasized that this technology must be accessible and safe for the public. He stated, "We need to ensure this technology is as open, secure, and privacy-respecting as possible—almost like a brain operating system."
