TechFlow news: Check Point Research, a cybersecurity solutions provider, recently discovered a new malware named Styx Stealer. This malware can steal large amounts of data, including cryptocurrency theft via clipboard attacks.
It exploits a Microsoft Windows Defender vulnerability patched last year, though the latest Windows systems are protected. The malware originates from an older variant called Phemedrone Stealer but includes new anti-detection techniques.
Check Point Research found that the developer of this malware may be based in Turkey and received approximately $9,500 in cryptocurrency payments across eight wallets during its first two months of operation.
Notably, according to a Chainalysis report released on August 15, while the value of cryptocurrency stolen by hackers has increased, legitimate crypto activity is growing faster than illicit activity. In 2024, the number of hacking incidents has increased only slightly compared to the same period last year.
