TechFlow reported on August 13 that, according to Decrypt, an Australian man has been sentenced to three years in prison after his partner accidentally received millions of dollars in a refund from Crypto.com and spent the money. In May 2021, Crypto.com intended to issue a $100 refund but due to an employee's data entry error in an Excel spreadsheet, mistakenly transferred $6.86 million (approximately 10.47 million AUD) into the bank account of an Australian couple, Thevamanogari Manivel and Jatinder Singh. The exchange platform failed to promptly detect and correct the error because the bank account did not match any exchange account, which allowed Singh to spend a large portion of the funds. During sentencing, Judge Martin Murch described Singh's actions as "at least reckless," noting the incident arose from "extremely unusual circumstances."
