TechFlow news — Chris Burniske, former head of crypto at Ark Invest and partner at Placeholder VC, said that each cycle tends to focus on one major "dark horse" project. From 2014 to 2017 it was BTC, from 2018 to 2021 it was ETH, and since 2022 it has been SOL.
Burniske emphasized staying flexible and avoiding dogmatism, while noting he still holds BTC and stakes ETH.
He explained his choice of SOL by saying that when a project is a differentiated "dark horse," the dynamics become more personally interesting to him. He believes many people tend to support already established projects (which reduces the marginal benefit of his own support), while few are willing to back a "dark horse" due to the career risks involved.
Burniske stated that he performs best during the transition period when a project moves from being a "dark horse" to becoming mature, and in the future he may shift his primary focus to projects beyond SOL. He stressed that the entire cryptocurrency space remains itself a "dark horse," and thus he supports all serious efforts. Burniske concluded by saying it's not too late to join the SOL camp, while still loving ETH.
