TechFlow reported, OKLink released its July 2024 security report, revealing that blockchain security incidents across the network caused cumulative losses of approximately $290 million. Losses due to private key leaks accounted for 88.31% of total losses, phishing incidents accounted for 3.03%, REKT events accounted for 7.33%, and RugPull incidents accounted for 1.31%.
On July 18, WazirX exchange suffered a multi-signature wallet private key leak, resulting in a loss of about $235 million, making it the largest security incident in July. On July 16, LiFi Protocol, a cross-chain bridge aggregation protocol, was attacked, leading to a loss of approximately $10 million. The attacker exploited an arbitrary call vulnerability to steal assets from users who had authorized the contract.
In addition, there were 14 incidents involving scams and phishing attacks targeting official social media accounts, causing losses of about $3.89 million, an 81.34% decrease compared to June. OKLink reminds users never to disclose your private keys or recovery phrases to anyone, avoid clicking unverified links, and learn to use Web3 on-chain tools to mitigate risks—these are crucial defenses for protecting yourself in the Web3 world.
