TechFlow news: Algorand has partnered with global fintech companies to establish a humanitarian alliance. The alliance includes the Algorand Foundation, Circle, Worldpay, Mercy Corps Ventures, HesabPay, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Leveraging blockchain's characteristics—decentralization, immutability, transparency, traceability, and verifiability—the initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and accessibility of cash assistance and increase access to aid during humanitarian crises. The alliance's objectives include advising UN agencies and NGOs on using blockchain technology for disbursement of aid funds and developing a roadmap for successfully piloting blockchain-based cash assistance programs in impoverished regions.
HesabPay, a global payment application built on Algorand, has already demonstrated the effectiveness of combining blockchain with cash aid delivery. It has driven the creation of what is currently the world’s largest blockchain-based humanitarian project, partnering with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and supported by the WFP Innovation Accelerator, providing support to over 14,000 families in Afghanistan.
