TechFlow news — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange plans to plead guilty this week, under a deal with the U.S. Department of Justice that would lead to his release after serving five years in a UK prison.
According to court documents, Assange has been charged with conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information. He is expected to enter his plea and be released at the U.S. District Court for the Northern Mariana Islands, before returning to Australia, his country of birth.
The U.S. charges against Assange stem from one of the largest releases of classified information in American history, involving the disclosure of tens of thousands of documents related to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as detainee assessment briefs from Guantanamo Bay.
Previous report: Trump said that if re-elected president, he would consider pardoning WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
