TechFlow news — zkSync founder Alex Gluchowski responded to the controversy over "registering the ZK trademark": "We reject the concept of 'intellectual property.' Everything we create is released to the public under free and open-source licenses. However, trademarks exist to protect users, not companies. All trademarks we have ever registered, including those related to ZK, are purely defensive—to prevent dishonest actors from misleading customers and creating confusion between their products and services and those provided by Matter Labs (which unfortunately has happened in the past)."
He added that he had contacted the Ethereum Foundation's legal team and proposed collaborating to establish a legal framework enabling terms like "ZK" and other key technical terms to be freely used in the public domain, while inviting others to join this initiative—especially those who have filed trademarks related to STARK.
