Kabosu was a dog rescued and adopted by Atsuko Sato. In 2010, she took the now-famous photo of Kabosu—paws crossed, glancing sideways at the camera, with a slightly upturned mouth and an expression that seemed both mischievous and innocent, both sincere and mocking. In 2013, this image unexpectedly went viral on Reddit, the largest online community in the United States, and Tumblr, the world's biggest microblogging site. The term "Doge," originating from the American web cartoon Homestar Runner, became associated with Kabosu after a well-known "flooding" incident between two major foreign social forums, 4chan and Reddit, in 2013.
Her owner, Atsuko Sato, announced that a farewell ceremony will be held on May 26 in Flower Kaori, located in Kamitsu no Mori, Narita City.
