TechFlow reported, citing Bloomberg, that according to sources familiar with the matter, the White House is poised to nominate Kristin Johnson, a Democratic commissioner at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), for the role of Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Institutions. The announcement is expected to be made public shortly.
The Office of Financial Institutions at the Treasury Department helps shape policy with a focus on cybersecurity, and the assistant secretary oversees policy portfolios including banks, credit unions, insurance, and consumer protection. According to multiple news reports, this position was previously held by Graham Steele, who left in January. In a speech earlier this month, he urged U.S. lawmakers to establish regulatory standards for cryptocurrencies.
