TechFlow reports, according to blockchain data firm Arkham Intelligence, a wallet identified by Arkham as holding funds seized by the U.S. government has transferred nearly $1 billion worth of Bitcoin recovered from the Bitfinex hacker.
One wallet initially moved 1 BTC at approximately 1:39 p.m. ET, and about half an hour later, the remaining 2,817 BTC in the wallet was transferred, totaling around $173 million. Shortly afterward, another wallet containing approximately 12,300 BTC sent 0.01 BTC to an unknown address, followed by the transfer of all remaining BTC. These transactions amounted to roughly $750 million. Based on current prices, the total value of Bitcoin transferred from these two wallets reached approximately $923 million.
According to Arkham, another U.S. government wallet holds about 94,600 BTC seized from the Bitfinex hacker, valued at approximately $5.79 billion at current prices. According to a U.S. Department of Justice press release from August, the agency seized approximately 95,000 stolen Bitcoin from cryptocurrency wallets controlled by the defendants, with a value of about $3.6 billion at the time of seizure.
