TechFlow news, according to Bloomberg citing sources familiar with the matter, Apple is abandoning its decade-long electric vehicle manufacturing project.
The sources said Apple disclosed the news internally on Tuesday.
Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and Vice President Kevin Lynch, who led the project, jointly made the decision. They informed employees that the project will begin winding down, and many members of the car manufacturing team will be transferred to Apple’s artificial intelligence division led by executive John Giannandrea. These employees will focus on generative AI initiatives, an increasingly critical priority for the company.
Meanwhile, hundreds of hardware engineers and automotive designers remain on the car team. They may apply for positions in other teams. The company will carry out layoffs, though the exact number has not yet been determined.
