TechFlow news: China's Ministry of State Security announced today that individual overseas map companies have been luring domestic personnel to illegally collect sensitive geographic spatial information data by offering virtual currency rewards for map "check-ins." These individuals are enticed to purchase and use specialized equipment to gather data, which is then uploaded in real time to servers located abroad. In some cases, high rewards are offered specifically for data collection in certain key areas, attracting participants to focus their efforts there.
Some domestic individuals, lacking sufficient awareness of national security, have been tempted by the prospect of earning money through map check-ins. Unknowingly, they have been exploited by these malicious foreign companies and have become accomplices in the illegal collection and theft of geographic spatial data.
State security authorities, together with relevant functional departments, have taken action against such individuals and organizations—both domestic and overseas—involved in gathering or stealing China’s sensitive geographic spatial information. They have promptly blocked the illegal transfer of related data out of the country, eliminating potential risks and hazards associated with data leakage.
