TechFlow news — Uniswap founder Hayden Adams posted on X, stating: "Uniswap intentionally built its user interface (UI) as open-source because we want people to fork it. However, branding is very different from decentralized protocols or open-source interfaces. The Uniswap brand can be used in various ways, but there are restrictions outlined in our trademark policy. The ability to fork the user interface helps increase decentralization. It's important that if the official Uniswap-operated UI fails, users can still access the protocol; this also accelerates innovation and provides public goods for the ecosystem."
Hayden Adams added, "Forking with the brand doesn't enhance decentralization—in fact, it may mislead users and cause harm. Unlike immutable on-chain protocols, UI forks operated by different teams carry different security characteristics, and trademark policies help enable takedowns of scam websites. People shouldn't expect brands to be entirely permissionless and decentralized like blockchains or DeFi protocols."
