TechFlow reports, according to HK01, that the Hong Kong Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data conducted searches today at six locations in Hong Kong linked to the cryptocurrency project Worldcoin, demanding operators hand over relevant documents and information.
The action follows concerns that Worldcoin may have violated privacy regulations, particularly regarding the collection and processing of personal sensitive data.
To date, the office has not received any complaints about Worldcoin; the search aims to protect citizens' privacy.
It is understood that the Worldcoin project involves a verification system called World ID based on personal biometric characteristics, requiring participants to provide iris scans via an iris-scanning device to obtain identification and receive free cryptocurrency.
