TechFlow reports that Tiffany Siu, ETF Investment Strategist at Samsung Asset Management (Hong Kong), the issuer of Hong Kong's cryptocurrency futures ETFs, revealed that the company currently already has futures-related products and is also interested in spot-based offerings. While launching spot ETFs is not ruled out, there are no updates at present. Many banks still do not distribute crypto futures ETFs, and even if spot ETFs were launched, similar distribution challenges could arise.
However, Nelson Wong, Managing Director and Head of Sales (Asia Pacific) at another crypto futures ETF issuer, CSOP Asset Management, said that using futures for ETFs is operationally simpler and avoids systemic risks. In contrast, spot-based ETFs require higher reliance on custody, counterparty risk management, and related infrastructure. At present, launching another similar product would be less cost-effective, and the company will assess market demand before making any decisions.
