TechFlow reported, citing the Financial Times and sources familiar with the matter, that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is discussing the formation of a new chip joint venture with Middle Eastern investors and chipmakers including TSMC, aiming to meet the company's growing demand for semiconductors while reducing reliance on Nvidia.
To this end, Altman is negotiating financing with UAE investors, including UAE billionaire Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al-Nahyan, to develop chips through the new initiative for training and building AI models. OpenAI is also in talks with TSMC to establish a partnership for chip manufacturing.
