TechFlow news — The ENS DAO has initiated a vote on upgrading DNSSEC support, aiming to deploy a new version of the DNSSEC oracle and DNS registrar by ENS Labs. This upgrade combines wildcard resolution (ENSIP 10) with CCIP-Read to enable a "Gasless DNSSEC" feature, allowing DNS domains to be used within ENS without requiring on-chain transactions, replacing the current DNSSEC registrar with a new one.
Existing DNS names will continue to operate as before, and names can still be imported using the "traditional" method. The new registrar also allows configuring names by setting a TXT record at _ens.name.tld, which includes the address of a designated resolver contract and any resolver-specific data. Resolvers designed for this purpose can interpret such additional data, enabling fully off-chain configuration.
In addition to the new registrar and oracle contracts, a simple resolver is provided that can read Ethereum addresses.
The proposal will conclude its voting period on January 25 and currently has unanimous approval.
