TechFlow news, according to PR Newswire, DFINITY Foundation, a Swiss non-profit R&D organization and major contributor to the Internet Computer blockchain (ICP), announced the launch of the European Subnet on ICP, providing infrastructure for decentralized applications (dApps) compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
This new infrastructure enables developers to use a suite of tools to launch dApps in the European market that protect personal and financial data, aligning with strict and well-established regulatory practices. The European Subnet is the first such subnet on the Internet Computer, geographically constrained to ensure all nodes are located within the European Union. This guarantees that data is processed and stored entirely within the EU, meeting GDPR jurisdictional requirements. The European Subnet also provides tamper-proof infrastructure necessary for building GDPR-compliant applications.
Dominic Williams, founder and chief scientist at DFINITY, commented: "The Internet Computer enables full-stack decentralization. The network's controlling NNS DAO has created an internal subnet specifically composed of nodes located in Europe, enabling web3 builders to create online services and applications that meet GDPR requirements. Web3 builders can now create innovative and compliant decentralized experiences benefiting millions of users across the EU and beyond."
