TechFlow reported that the self-regulatory trade association CryptoUK, in a report released on December 14, analyzed statements made by UK Members of Parliament between 2022 and 2023. It found that only 37 MPs specifically mentioned cryptocurrencies and blockchain—just 5.7% of the total 650 MPs—indicating that the majority of parliamentarians lack knowledge about the crypto industry.
CryptoUK noted that senior UK government figures who mentioned cryptocurrencies or blockchain in 2023 included MP and former Economic Secretary Andrew Griffith, as well as pro-cryptocurrency advocate Lisa Cameron.
A spokesperson for CryptoUK said: "It is crucial that MPs from all parties and regions across the UK gain a better understanding of the digital asset industry. Nearly five million people in the UK own some form of digital asset, and tens of thousands are employed in this sector, supporting local economies and contributing to the UK's economic growth."
