TechFlow news: A Miami gang leader has been sentenced by a New York judge to 63 months in prison for leading a scheme that defrauded Bank of America of $4 million through cryptocurrency fraud.
Esteban Cabrera Da Corte, a member of the gang, pleaded guilty in April to participating in the 2020 scheme, which involved stealing millions of dollars in cryptocurrency and tricking Bank of America into issuing chargebacks.
The 27-year-old Da Corte is also ordered to pay nearly $3.6 million in restitution and $1.2 million in forfeiture. He was one of three individuals indicted in August 2022, in connection with crimes that led Bank of America to process $4 million in fraudulent reversals and caused a cryptocurrency exchange to lose $3.5 million in digital assets.
