TechFlow reported that in early 2022, Polygon Labs announced sports betting company DraftKings would become a validator on its network, marking the first time a major publicly traded company actively participated in blockchain governance. However, what Polygon did not disclose was that it paid DraftKings millions of dollars worth of MATIC tokens to make this happen. Despite receiving compensation, DraftKings failed to maintain its validator performance and was removed from the network last month.
