TechFlow reports that the Filecoin mainnet will undergo a v21 network upgrade, codenamed Watermelon, at epoch 3469380 (around December 12, 2023, 13:30:00). This upgrade introduces 'rich' features and enhancements for Storage Provider (SP) operations and the Filecoin Virtual Machine (FVM), along with protocol bug fixes.
Since this upgrade introduces numerous state changes to the network, state migration may take slightly longer than previous upgrades. As a result, node operators might experience slower block validation times, increased CPU and memory usage, and longer API query latencies during the pre-migration/migration period—depending on the implementation used by the node operator, the size of the state stored in block storage, and the hardware specifications in use.
