TechFlow news — According to The Information, a person familiar with the matter said that OpenAI's board has approached Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO of rival large language model developer Anthropic, regarding a potential merger between the two companies. The person said OpenAI's board firing CEO Sam Altman on Friday was part of its effort to persuade Amodei to take over as CEO.
It remains unclear whether the merger proposal sparked serious discussions. Due to his position at Anthropic, Amodei quickly declined the CEO offer. The two-year-old startup sells Claude, a chatbot competing with OpenAI's ChatGPT, and has been fiercely competing with OpenAI in recruiting researchers and winning customers.
