TechFlow news — Yuga Labs has confirmed that at least 15 attendees of the Yuga Labs ApeFest event in Hong Kong last week reported vision loss, eye pain, and skin issues, with ultraviolet (UV) lights suspected as the primary cause. BAYC stated the conclusion was reached after a joint investigation with Jack Morton Worldwide, the production agency behind ApeFest, which included on-site inspections, testing, interviews with event contractors, and reviews of equipment logs and specifications. Specific details about the type of UVA lamps used at ApeFest have not yet been disclosed.
On November 5, attendees began reporting eye- and skin-related symptoms following the previous day's ApeFest event. ApeFest is a free event held in Hong Kong for owners of Bored and Mutant Ape Yacht Club NFTs. Yuga Labs encouraged individuals experiencing symptoms to seek medical attention and inform healthcare providers about their exposure to UVA lighting. The company also asked affected individuals to message them on X, stating they would support recovery efforts for those impacted.
