TechFlow news — South Korean telecom giant SK Telecom has announced the launch of a virtual currency called "Stone" on its metaverse platform Ifland, aimed at purchasing high-value virtual items and sponsoring activities. This move is intended to attract more users and enable influencers to monetize through donations.
Meanwhile, Ifland also offers a free currency called "Points," which users can earn by participating in events or completing tasks.
SK Telecom has also introduced NFT-related virtual items through its NFT marketplace TopPort, enabling character customization (such as special clothing and hair accessories) and other metaverse activities.
Previously, in late 2021, SK Telecom's investment arm, SK Square, acquired a 35% stake in South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Korbit for nearly $75 million.
