TechFlow — Vitalik Buterin stated at the Permissionless conference that cryptographic-based solutions have the potential to be more decentralized, privacy-preserving, and secure than today's Web2. He referenced building blocks such as ENS, POAP (or their next-generation versions), or zero-knowledge technologies like Gitcoin Passport as better alternatives.
Buterin remarked: "The grand vision here is to truly create an independent, open technology stack capable of competing with companies like Google and Twitter, without being tightly integrated into closed, centralized systems."
Vitalik envisioned a gradual process where new Web3 users could start by creating an Ethereum address initially controlled by familiar services like Gmail, but through account abstraction, gain full ownership when ready to adopt more crypto-native approaches. He said: "Essentially, give people the opportunity to step down the ladder of decentralization, and eventually transition properly into this fully independent stack, where all the different components actually work together."
