TechFlow reports that Tom Emmer, U.S. House Majority Whip who previously expressed concerns about the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) actions in the cryptocurrency industry, reintroduced a significant amendment on September 8. In a statement, Emmer criticized SEC Chair Gary Gensler for overreach, saying it has negatively impacted the American people. Emmer urged Congress to use existing methods and proper procedures to prevent potential misuse of taxpayer funds by Gary Gensler and the SEC.
Emmer intends to introduce an appropriations amendment that would restrict the SEC from using funds for enforcement actions related to crypto assets until comprehensive rules and regulations are established. The lack of clear cryptocurrency regulation has raised concerns about the SEC’s substantial spending in legal disputes with numerous crypto entities, potentially resulting in wasted taxpayer dollars.
