TechFlow reported, according to a statement, the U.S. House Financial Services Committee's Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology, and Inclusion will hold a hearing titled "The Digital Dollar Dilemma" on September 14 to discuss the implications of issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) and "private-sector alternatives." Roughly two weeks later, SEC Chair Gary Gensler is scheduled to testify before the full committee.
This hearing will mark the first time in months that a House committee has addressed issues related to launching a digital dollar in the United States. Congress had previously been in recess during August. Several U.S. lawmakers have proposed differing approaches to address CBDC-related concerns, including measures to restrict the Federal Reserve’s authority to issue a digital dollar. Additionally, multiple states, including Florida, have passed legislation banning CBDCs from being used as a payment option.
