TechFlow news — According to Cointelegraph, during an interview at Korea Blockchain Week, Simon Morris, Strategic Lead at Consensys, said that MetaMask Snaps functions much like an Apple App Store for crypto wallets, allowing third-party developers to launch new decentralized applications to extend MetaMask's capabilities.
The first wave of snaps will undergo security reviews and be whitelisted by Consensys developers. The long-term goal for MetaMask Snaps is to make the process permissionless, similar to publishing apps on the web.
An upgrade later this year will allow users to download third-party extensions into their MetaMask wallets, enabling them to use MetaMask with non-EVM chains including Bitcoin, Solana, Avalanche, and Starknet.
Another feature enabled by Snaps will allow developers to send in-app messages directly to MetaMask users.
Rather than requiring users to visit a project’s website or social media accounts for updates, the upgrade will introduce a "communication layer between DApp developers and their users."
