TechFlow news — online storage platform Dropbox recently announced it will discontinue its unlimited cloud storage Advanced plan, switching instead to a usage-based pricing model. The decision follows discoveries that some users were abusing the service for resource-intensive operations such as cryptocurrency mining.
In a blog post, Dropbox stated that the unlimited storage plan led to highly uneven usage patterns. Recently, certain users were found consuming thousands of times more resources than typical business customers, including unintentional heavy usage like cryptocurrency mining.
Dropbox noted this move aligns with similar actions taken by other service providers who have also phased out unlimited storage plans. Under the new policy, each user will receive 15TB of free storage space.
