TechFlow reported, according to The Block, that in a lawsuit backed by Coinbase over sanctions on Tornado Cash, U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman filed a document at the U.S. District Court stating an order denying in part the plaintiffs' motion for summary judgment. The plaintiffs include Joseph Van Loon, Tyler Almeida, Alexander Fisher, Preston Van Loon, Kevin Vitale, and Nate Welch. The court ruled that Tornado Cash is an association in the ordinary sense, and therefore an entity subject to designation under OFAC regulations.
Coinbase Chief Legal Officer Paul Grewal commented on the matter via X (formerly Twitter), saying: "We still believe the plaintiffs' challenge to the U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) action on Tornado Cash is correct. We've always known that resolving these issues would require review by the Fifth Circuit Court, and we will continue to support their appeal."
