TechFlow reports that Layer2 solution Scroll has announced the launch of its Scroll Beta testnet on Sepolia for developers and users. New features and improvements include zkEVM upgrades, bridge enhancements, and infrastructure upgrades. The Scroll Goerli testnet will be deprecated after mainnet launch.
The zkEVM upgrade improves EVM compatibility through precompile upgrades, enables efficient on-chain verification via proof compression and aggregation, and strengthens circuit integrity. The bridge upgrade reduces gas costs by up to 50% and introduces trustless message relaying between L1 and L2, eliminating reliance on trusted relayers. On the infrastructure front, an EIP-2718 transaction type called L1MessageTx is introduced for trustless message passing, removing dependence on centralized trusted relays. Additionally, a simplified circuit capacity checker prevents proof overflow, and coordinator functionality has been enhanced.
