TechFlow news, according to The Wall Street Journal, a U.S. congressional committee is investigating a group of American venture capital firms that have provided financing to Chinese technology companies, as part of Washington's efforts to push for scrutiny and potentially ban such transactions.
This week, a special committee of the U.S. House of Representatives notified GGV Capital, GSR Ventures, Walden International, and Qualcomm Ventures that it is reviewing their investments in Chinese companies involved in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and quantum computing.
The special committee contends these U.S. investments "directly fuel" China's efforts to supplant America's technological leadership, and in its letters has required all venture capital firms headquartered in California to respond by July 26, 2023.
