TechFlow news, StarkWare announced that the first Starknet app chain will soon launch a closed beta on the mainnet.
A Starknet app chain is a customized environment where applications can tailor a Starknet instance for better control over specifications, lower costs, greater scalability, and opt-in privacy. Currently, Starknet app chains can be operated by StarkWare as a managed service.
App chains will choose which stack components they run themselves and which components are run via managed services (such as StarkWare's SHARP). They may opt to rely on strictly open-source components or proprietary technologies.
Although app chains initially exist on Ethereum as L2s, Starknet app chains will migrate to L3 to achieve better scalability and lower gas/tx fees, and thus will operate on Starknet.
