TechFlow news, Indonesia's Ministry of Trade aims to launch a crypto exchange by June 2023, significantly later than its initial target of establishing one by the end of 2022. Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan said Thursday: "Since we now have regulations and some improvements in place, we hope to have a cryptocurrency exchange up and running before June."
The government is currently reviewing which companies meet all requirements to be part of the cryptocurrency exchange. So far, among the 25 exchanges registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti), there are five active "digital asset trading entities," also known as crypto exchanges. According to Zulkifli, these five entities may be included in the ministry's planned crypto exchange. Zulkifli also urged the public to remain patient regarding the crypto exchange, as the government has only recently lifted the moratorium on new licenses for crypto exchanges.
