TechFlow news — Recently, Cobo Ventures conducted an in-depth analysis of current mainstream off-chain scaling solutions for blockchain, covering their development timeline, technical principles, advantages and disadvantages, and applications.
Ellaine Xu, VP of Investment and Research at Cobo, stated: "Off-chain scaling technologies will be a key driver shaping blockchain development over the next 5–10 years."
Achieving off-chain scaling solutions while maintaining security and maximizing decentralization has long been a goal pursued by many outstanding developers in the industry. From early approaches such as State Channels and sidechains, to Plasma, Vitalik’s Rollup prototype known as the shadow chain, and finally to today’s widely adopted optimal solution—ZK Rollups—each technological fork and evolution brings us closer to the ideal outcome. However, we also recognize that ZK Rollups still face challenges, including partial centralization issues, and due to the computationally intensive processes involved in generating ZKPs—such as extensive vector multiplications and Fourier transforms—they demand high hardware specifications, limiting their practical deployability which remains to be improved.
