TechFlow news — Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin stated at the ETH Shanghai conference held on May 20, 2022, that Ethereum 2.0 is currently undergoing final network testing. If all issues are resolved, the Merge could happen as early as August; if other complications arise, it might occur in September or October.
He noted that the Ethereum ecosystem is currently too focused on financial applications like DeFi and needs to develop more applications across other domains. He then discussed the concept of "Soulbound Tokens" introduced recently in his paper "Finding Web3's Soul: Building a Trust-Based Future," stating that more application-layer use cases will benefit from this new form of identity token, and reiterated the importance of DAOs, privacy, and decentralized governance for the Ethereum ecosystem.
Additionally, Vitalik Buterin mentioned that the Ethereum team has proposed a scaling roadmap called "Danksharding," which in the long term will expand Ethereum’s block capacity to 80,000 TPS, enabling Rollups to eventually achieve 80,000 TPS. The first step will be Proto-danksharding, supporting 1MB block space and 5,000 TPS.
