Vitalik said his personal dream is to simultaneously achieve both visions: a base layer whose specifications grow smaller each year; and a robust, developer-friendly ecosystem of advanced applications centered around Layer 2 protocols. Achieving such an ideal world will take considerable time, and clearly recognizing this timeline—and thinking step by step about the roadmap—could greatly benefit us.
Vitalik believes there are pathways to improve both functionality and simplicity, though they may be somewhat winding.
