TechFlow – According to official announcements, Bonfida, a project within the Solana ecosystem, has officially launched the Solana Name Service (SNS), opening domain registrations via auctions. When a user initiates a domain registration, they must submit an initial bid. The auction lasts for seven days, after which the highest bidder obtains ownership of the domain.
The Solana Name Service aims to provide a decentralized and affordable method to link domain names (.sol) with on-chain data. This on-chain data can include SOL addresses, IPFS content IDs, images, text, or virtually anything else. A key advantage of the service is its ability to map domain names to SOL addresses, making them easier for users to read, remember, and use for on-chain transfers and payments.
